Trixie's First Week in RedmondIt's hard to believe that Trixie has been with us
for a week. Many thanks to Debi and her husband Shawn who took it upon them to
bring back all three Pacific Northwest puppies up from Angel's Camp, CA.
Within these few days Trixie has wiggled her way into our hearts. When she sits
there - her little paws close to her body, looking expectantly at us - we melt
away and it is hard to say "no" when she is completely absorbed in pulling
threads from our rug. In the past week she has grown quite a bit adding about
600 grams. Luckily she doesn't know yet that she can outrun us already. She
often comes when we call her, except when she is busy exploring a new corner of
house or garden. She loves to take advantage of unsuspecting visitors: nipping
their feet or pulling their shoestrings. When we are alone she behaves much
better, playing mostly with her toys, chasing around the house, rolling on the
carpet with her stuffed rhino, or taking long naps. She got used to her collar
and walks on the leash, however, far from perfect. Her favorite toy is a cord
with three plastic keys. I attached a string to it and let it jump or swing. She
tries to catch it and quite cleverly watches it first, before cutting into its
circling moves. The best part of this game is that it tires her out and not me.
Today she met our neighbors' dogs: a Golden Retriever and a mixture between an
Australian Shepherd and a Collie. The big dogs had never seen a puppy before and
did not know what to do with such a tiny creature. Trixie, after being shy in
the beginning, started to jump up and teased them to play.
Accidents still happen, particularly when we are not fast enough when she passes
our back door. Thanks to the great product "Nature's Miracle", available in pet
stores, these accidents don't leave any spots or odors. During the night Trixie
sleeps next to our bed, tied to Olaf's night stand. After three times in the
beginning her nightly outings are now down to one. She loves this place so much
that she goes there whenever she wants to take a nap, often even before we go to
bed in order to be ready for the adventures of a new day.
